Red-wine drinkers like Cabernet Sauvignon, especially those from just about anywhere in California (Napa and Sonoma Valleys, in particular) and Washington (home to Quilceda Creek Winery, producer of one of the finest Cabernet Sauvignons in the world). The Perez Cruz is not one of the world’s elite red wines, but for a bottle with only two digits to the left of the decimal point ($12), it’s darn good. According to the Wine Advocate’s Luis Gutierrez, it’s “a fruit-driven wine that is clean, fresh and balanced in the palate, showing the varietal character and the herbal character of the Maipo region. It's really open, expressive and aromatic, with bright red fruit and a balsamic, minty and pungent note that makes it very attractive…. The palate is silky and soft, polished and sleek.” It’s really a very nice bottle, especially if you let it breathe for an hour or so before drinking it.
