2017 Requiem Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley Washington

I like this wine and I believe you will, too. It doesn’t announce itself with a cudgel so much as a calling card. It’s complex and sophisticated, and well worth the $19.99 that seems to be the most recent pricing. My advice: Look around. I got mine from Vivino for $13.99 (vs. the $19.99 now being charged) and that included free shipping. The only professional review I was able to find came from Wine Enthusiast’s Sean Sullivan, whose faint praise took the form of, “The second vintage of this wine is a blend of fruit from Walla Walla Valley, Horse Heaven Hills and Red Mountain appellations. Aromas of cocoa, green pepper, black cherry and black currant are followed by light but nicely balanced fruit flavors.” He stingily awarded 88 points. By contrast, a Plonk Wine Club taster noted that “this very distinguished, super stylish Cabernet Sauvignon was grown biodynamically in Washington's Columbia Valley. Densely layered and quite substantial in the mouth, this bottling delivers generous blackberry and black currant fruit, wrapped around a vibrant core of acidity which keeps the wine pert and lively on the palate. The fruit for this bottling was sourced from 4 vineyard sites in Walla Walla and Horse Heaven Hills.” I’d give it 91 points – maybe 92 – and, as an aside, what a HUGE value when you can pick it up for sub$14 with free shipping. (The Plonk Wine Club charges $28.75/bottle.)
