Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate reviewer Monica Larner is widely regarded as one of the toughest – and one of the best – Italian-wine critics there is. Here’s her review of this wine: “I am floored by the incredible value delivered by this blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Sangiovese. The 2016 I Veroni shows attractive darkness and thick color saturation. The bouquet unfolds with a long succession of dark fruit, cherry and spice aromas. This wine also has a well-developed savory side with tobacco and leather. With 50,000 bottles made, this excellent bargain should be easy to locate. [The winemaker] Lorenzo Mariani is an overachiever, and his I Veroni estate makes some of the world's best Vin Santo sweet wines. The dry table wines are equally delicious and are prized for their nuanced elegance and grace.”

The wine should still be drinking well through 2022, so buy more than just a bottle or two, especially when you can buy those bottles for less than $10 each.
