Wine Advocate’s Luis Gutiérrez tasted this wine twice: once from the barrel and once from the bottle. His notes are consistent. From the barrel, he gave it 92-93 points, which means this is GREAT juice. Luis called it “elegant and at the same time concentrated, with a little more of everything—acidity, extract and tannins, all in harmony.” He came back about a year-and-a-half later to taste the wine in bottle. His verdict: “I returned to the 2016 La Montesa once it had been in bottle for almost eight months. It has all the rosemary, thyme and aromatic plants in the Monte Yerga in Alfaro. It has a note of incense. It's super juicy Garnacha with citrus freshness. It's incredible to have this quality at this price.” This time he rated it 93 points and said it will remain at its best through 2024. The price? As little as $12.98/bottle from B-21 in Florida. (B-21 offers inexpensive shipping, too.) Other retailers offer it from $13.95. Don’t let the price fool you. This is a really wonderful wine.
