2018 Chateau Croix D’Aumedes Cuvee Reserve

According to Decanter: “The vast Corbières zone in the Languedoc contains a little bit of everything, from classic warmth and generosity on the outskirts of Narbonne to wild mountain wines in the hinterland and concentrated, stony wines up on the border with the Agly Valley and the Roussillon. In a way, this blend of Carignan (a great Corbières speciality) with Syrah and Grenache brings all three styles together: flowers and fruit in the billowing, sweet-scented aromas and both generous fruits and something more stony and driving in the finely constructed palate. The tannins are present but unintimidating, and the acidity is unobtrusive and ripe. So easy to drink that you almost overlook those complexities -- but they'll keep you coming back for more.”

Wine Access, one of the nation’s top wine merchants, had this to say: “For less than the standard price of a glass of wine at our favorite Napa Valley spots, you can have an entire bottle of the extravagant, 97-point Croix d’Aumèdes Cuvée Réserve… which pairs perfectly with extravagant, Michelin-starred takeout (or pizza). The 2018 Cuvée Réserve is decadent, bold, and positively generous. Ripe cherries and raspberries bound from the glass, surrounded by aromatic lavender and Mediterranean garrigue. The juicy red fruit takes center stage thanks to 70-year-old Carignan vines, plus Syrah and Grenache, but there is a nuanced savory component rich with leather, smoked meat, and umami that entices from stony, mineral depths.” Then it added, redundantly: “Showing a medium ruby hue, this blend is bursting with juicy cherry and raspberry fruit on the nose, plus garrigue spice and fragrant lavender. It entices with a zesty and mineral-tinged palate of red fruit seasoned with leather, olive tapenade, and licorice. A medium-full texture with a spicy finish shows off firm natural fruit tannins and gives this Languedoc blend some teeth. You just found your new favorite red! It’s perfect with grilled sausages and slowly braised meat dishes. Drink now - 2023.”

So, 97 points (more likely others’ 91-93 points), and as little as $12.99/bottle. A deal!
