Bodegas Juan Gil Honoro Vera Organic Monastrell

This is a delicious wine perfect for everyday drinking or for “What’s next?” after downing the contents of a special bottle saved for a special occasion, like Father’s Day or, for me, Tuesday. The well-regarded Josh Raynolds (Vinous Media) had this to say: “Lurid ruby. Smoke-accented cherry and blackcurrant scents are complemented by suggestions of black pepper, licorice, and cured meat. Taut and structured on the palate, offering dark berry and bitter cherry flavors that are sweetened by a subtle violet pastille nuance. Fine-grained tannins build steadily on the finish, which lingers with good, smoke-tinged persistence. There's something Syrah-like going on here. (all stainless steel)” Josh gave it 89 points and said it would still be drinking well in 2023. Luis Gutiérrez (The Wine Advocate) gave the juice 88 points and said its drinking window will close in 2021. He wrote, “The 2017 Honoro Vera Organic is pure unoaked Monastrell with a fruit-driven profile and juicy texture…. It has a juicy palate and fine-grained tannins. It has clean fruit aromas and a style that's easy to understand. Juicy and pleasant. Very good value.” Oh. The price? As low as $7. That, my friends, is a deal.
